‘Laois Rugby Corner’

Masterson excels with Leinster
Congratulations to Portlaoise RFC’s Sean Masterson who was part of the successful Leinster U-18 Club team that managed to win the Interprovincial Title for the second successive year. Sean started the last game against Connacht at Number 8 and acquitted himself very well. This is Sean’s 2nd U-18 Interprovincial title having been part of last year’s successful team. Sean’s older brother Eoghan is doing extremely well with Connacht so let’s hope we see the two Portlaoise brothers take to the field in the Pro12 and Champions Cup.

Portlaoise RFC 1st XV couldn’t keep up their winning start to the season. The Laois side went down narrowly on their travels to Co. Carlow. For the match report click here. However the club’s second string made no mistake against the same opposition. For the report on that encounter click here.
Portlaoise Ladies team travelled to Navan on Sunday for their first competitive game of the season. Indeed it was the first game of rugby for many of the girls. What followed was a fantastic game of rugby. Portlaoise showed great ambition playing some attractive attacking rugby. Portlaoise’s try came from back row Stephanie Gleeson who started her run from halfway. She broke through a number of tackles before scoring under the posts. Unfortunately it was not to be for the Portlaoise Ladies as a more experienced Navan side scored 3 tries. For more on this encounter click here.
