Laois Offaly Families For Autism Latest
April is World Autism Awareness month and in order to raise awareness Laois Offaly Families For Autism in conjunction with Asiam.ie are launching a local “AsYouCan” campaign. We are asking businesses, clubs and services in Laois to consider what they can do to make their services more Autism friendly.

We would like to invite you to attend our “AsYouCan” evening on:- Thursday 16th April At 6pm In The Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise Guest Speaker Mr. Adam Harris CEO and Founder of Asiam.ie Autism is, in and of itself, neither a physical or intellectual disability. It is a developmental disorder which means that people with autism develop differently, particularly in the areas of communication, interaction and sensory processing. These differences can manifest themselves in a wide variety of traits, challenges and abilities. We talk about autism as a “spectrum” because no two people are affected by the condition in exactly the same way, as they are affected to varying degrees, in varying ways. We do not fully know what causes autism. It is a lifelong condition which individuals are born with. We know that it is a condition that affects approximately 1 in 100 of the Irish population with significantly more males affected than females.
