Laois Heritage Society Events

Michael Dowling, the renown historian and member of The Laois Heritage Society will lead a walk around Cone Village on August 17th. We will meet in Rosenallis at 6pm to drive to Cappard Ridge.

Michael Parsons will lead a fun tour of Historical Portlaoise on Sunday, August 21st, starting from the James Fintan Lalor statue at Aras an Chontae at 3pm and will take about 1.5 hours. Everyone is welcome to join in these activities – just remember to bring comfortable walking shoes, especially for the Cones walk.

Laois Heritage Society Events

The Society are hosting 2 talks over Heritage Week this year. On Monday August 22nd, Ger Dooley, historian and author from Camross will bring to life Laois in the decade of change 1913 – 1923 and on August 25th Arnold Horner will discuss the current research on the early (pre 1800s) Ordinance Survey maps of Laois. Both will be held in the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise, starting at 8pm. Come along and learn more about the history of Laois from these 2 interesting speakers.
