All-Ireland 60×30 Handball Doubles Finals

The 60×30 All-Ireland Finals were played last weekend with Laois heavily involved in the business end of the season with our handballers competing in three finals.

First in action for Laois was the U15 doubles pairing of Eoghan Doheny and Padraic Dunne who travelled to Ballymoe (Roscommon) to face Daire Madden and Conor Bourke of Tipperary. The Cullohill pairing played tremendous handball throughout this year’s championship recording notable victories in Leinster over Wexford and Kilkenny to reach the final. However on the day, they faced a skilful and highly talented Tipperary partnership who were proved the stronger on the day and the Tipperary boys took the title on a 15-12 15-8 scoreline.

Tómas Lennon and Ray Fogarty powered their way to the Men’s All Ireland Junior B 60×30 Final with an outstanding 21-5 21-5 victory over Cavan’s Lorcan Sheenan and Karl Fleming. In the final they faced Shane Murphy and Ben Walsh of Limerick. Unfortunately, the Laois pairing failed to replicate the form they showed in the semi-final losing the opening game 21-1. The second game was a much more competitive affair but in the end it was the Limerick pairing that prevailed 21-1 21-16.

Laois had one more opportunity of All-Ireland success and Niamh Dunne and Ciara Dowling duly delivered in the Ladies Junior Final against Ashling Fitzgerald and Edel O’Grady of Clare. The girls dominated from start and to finish and impressively took the All-Ireland title 21-3 21-11.
