LAOIS GAA SCENE

The local Inter-County scene revs back into action this weekend with the Laois Under-21 Footballers kicking off their Peter McNulty Tournament campaign against Carlow. That interesting encounter involving the two neighbours throws in at 7.45pm this Friday January 6th in the Laois GAA Training Centre.

Last year Kildare and Laois met in the decider of the Peter McNulty Tournament in Annanough. Click here for the Laois People’s coverage of last year’s final.

On Sunday there are debuts for former Tipperary manager Peter Creedon and ex-Kerry supremo Eamon Kelly as their respective squads are in action.

The footballers open their O’Byrne Cup campaign against DIT in Crettyard at 2pm, while the senior hurlers open their year against NUIG in Abbeyleix at 2pm also. It’ll be interesting to see how all the debutants on both panels fare in their first taste of the county game. Great see one of our own getting national coverage as the42.ie looks at Ballinakill’s Sean Downey amongst the next of wave of Hurling stars. Click here for the that article.
