Laois eyes smiling as Eye Clinic Breakthrough announced
Local Councillor confirms Laois Eye Clinic news
Independent Republican Councillor Caroline Dwane Stanley is confirming the breakthrough regarding an eye services for Laois. She outlined the following:
“I have received this news and confirmation from the HSE of the long awaited reinstatement of the Eye Clinic for the County. This will be located in modern facilities in Treo Nua Centre Harpurs Lane Portlaoise.
As Chairperson of Treo Nua I very much welcome this development. Both the Manager and Board of Treo Nua have been liaising closely with the HSE to enable this development. Myself and Dep. Brian Stanley have been trying to get the service back to Laois and we have been raising it with the HSE over the past couple of years.

The absence of a Laois service has meant that residents from throughout County have had to travel a far as Athlone in recent years to attend eye specialist appointments. This caused particular difficulties for those living in the south and east of the county, due to the extra distances they had to travel. In many cases whole days had to be taken off from work and school to attend.
The HSE are confirming that the catchment area for the new Clinic will be all of Laois. It will be staffed by one fulltime consultant and the necessary support staff. The service will be “aligned with the Eye and Ear Hospital Dublin” and the projected starting for the Clinic is within the next three months.

I want to thank the HSE management for choosing Treo Nua as it’s a very central location for the County and I look forward to the early commencement of the service.“
