“Inside Out” exhibition
The Laois Arthouse, Stradbally, is delighted to host “Inside Out”, an exhibition by artist Sue Reid. Sue was recently selected to exhibit following a competitive open call at the Laois Arthouse and it is her first exhibition in Co Laois. She is currently completing a 3 month residency in the Laois Arthouse Studios.
The exhibition will be officially launched by Laois-based Artist Brendon Deacy and the opening event takes place on Saturday 13th February at 1.30pm and all are welcome to join us at the Laois Arthouse, to view the wonderful work of this talented artist.
“Inside Out”, represents a body of work which shows how Sue has always been fascinated by paint and its metamorphic abilities transforming from liquid to a flexible solid. Sue likes to work with the materiality of paint in its pure and simplistic form.

Regarding her technique, Sue Reid starts with layers of moulded paint, creating stand-alone pieces. When accumulated they create a much larger piece of work. Paint becomes something to play with both inside and outside of a space, no longer supported by the traditional canvas.
The paintings created are about re-growth and change. Each small individual piece has altered from liquid form to a solid mass, multiplying into a larger collection of transformed pieces. White representing the new and renewed, each piece catching light and shadow.
Sue has been studying and practicing art since 2009, taking part in various exhibitions over the years. Leaving NCAD in 2014 Sue was very much involved in an art collective that was awarded incubation space by Dublin City Arts Council in the Lab in 2015. They were also awarded Unit 4, Foley St and hosted a group exhibition.

Sue plans to continue in the area of self-directed and peer learning and is very open to sharing information and knowledge gained about finding your way in the art world that exists today. During the exhibition run Sue will present an artists’ talk at the Laois Arthouse for art college students and art enthusiasts on Friday 26th February at 11am.
