Incredible Laois Photos
Appropriately enough we’ll start our series of incredible photos from Laois with a striking weather and landscape snap. Let’s all pray the winter of 2014/15 isn’t a rerun of a few years back when the country literally froze to a halt.
This photo, courtesy of P. Dunne and www.laoisweather.com from December 24th 2010 of the majestic Nore between the towns of Durrow and Abbeyleix, captures how the river almost froze over completely from frosty bank to frosty bank following days of temperatures that ranged between a perishing -14c and a moderately bracing -3c. What makes this photo all the more striking is the plain fact that the River Nore is Ireland’s fastest flowing river. Lovely to look at but less than pleasant to experience.
This pic is of Raheen Church and comes courtesy of Brian Maher. Brian was lucky to catch this shot last Saturday as the church is normally locked.
Next photo up is a real stunner. This amazing shot from the Rock of Dunamase down onto the surrounding farmland is courtesy of Jim Brennan. Marvellous snap from an unusual perspective. Well done Jim.
The next photo is of Stradbally Wood and comes to us thanks to Laura Maher. Well done Laura. Lovely shot and composition. Reminds us of far warmer summer days.
