Living with Loss
An evening of remembrance
– Thursday 2nd November, Alexander Hotel at 5:30pm
Guest Speaker Laura Kennedy

November is traditionally a time to remember those in our lives who have died. As such, it provides an opportunity for comfort and sharing, for coming together with others who have lost someone.

The Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF) is hosting an evening of remembrance on Thursday, 2nd November. This is a free public information event allowing people to hear about aspects of loss and bereavement which may help them understand aspects of their own loss.

Laura Kennedy (Columnist with The Irish Times, freelance writer, journalist and author of the personal reflection column ‘Leavetaking’) will talk about ‘Living with Loss’. Laura’s Leavetaking column here came about by accident, after Laura’s mother Emma was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2016. The two had an incredibly close relationship. The column charts Laura’s attempt to come to terms with the impending and subsequent loss of her greatest friend, and gives an honest perspective on the human reality of cancer and loss. Laura will share her honest and personal experience from the loss of her mother at this special evening of remembrance.

Throughout the evening, which begins at 5.30pm, there will be videos and an opportunity to meet with and find out about bereavement support services operating in the Dublin area.

It is often said that ‘death ends a life, not a relationship’. Relationships remain with us; the special connections, memories, shared stories and the good and bad times are part of life and will live on.

This free public information event about bereavement is sponsored by Fanagans Funeral Directors. It will take place on Thursday, 2nd November 5.30pm to 8.00pm at the Alexander Hotel, 41-47 Fenian Street (off Merrion Square), Dublin 2.  All are welcome to attend.
