‘La La Land’ Review
By Nathan Hayes
Very much in the vein of ‘Casablanca’ and ‘Bringing Up Baby’, ‘La La Land’ is a beautifully shot, well made musical and a must see for anyone who wants to feel fantastic. Filled to the brim with fabulous dance pieces, songs that will hook you and lovable characters that you won’t want to leave it’s hard not to adore this modern masterpiece.
Set in L.A., the story follows the two star crossed lovers, Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) and Mia (Emma Stone) as they try make their way through the trials and tribulations of everyday life, whilst aspiring for something bigger for themselves.

A nod to the golden age of Hollywood, this film has some great sets and design, whilst mixing in some modern aspects. This doesn’t take away from the film but is rather a benefit as it feels fresh instead of rehashing old tropes. And the feel of Americana in this film is sure to warm the heart of any watcher.
Although not entirely without fault, this beautiful piece is definitely a ‘must watch’ this movie season with defined ability to reconnect you to those emotions that most modern movies have lacked.
