DURROW HIGH NELLY CLUB – UPCOMING EVENTS: October 7th 2017: Greenway cycle from Waterford to Dungarvan. Leaving Bobs at 9am and staying overnight in Lawlor’s Hotel, Dungarvan. DURROW CHOIR REHEARSALS: Durrow choir, ‘Vocem Daru’ are resuming their rehearsals and music making on Tuesday, 19th September in the Presentation Centre from 7.30pm until 9.30pm. We hope that you have all had a lovely break, and are ready to polish up those voices again, to make more beautiful music. We are always looking for new members. Do you love music, and enjoy singing, and would like to be part of a mixed voice choir, singing everything from ballads to pop, traditional to classical? DURROW LIBRARY: The Library will be celebrating Culture Night on September 22nd at 7pm with a very special author event. Helena Duggan, author of “A Place Called Perfect” will be giving a reading and there will also be some crafting and perhaps, some treats! The event is suitable for children over 9. The book itself has been chosen as the Children’s Book of the Month for Waterstones and Eason’s bookshops, is one of the books chosen by Tom Fletcher for the new WHSmith book club and is currently number 7 in the Children’s book charts in the UK. Book a place soon before the event fills up!
The Library Irish Conversation Group hope to start meeting again on Monday evenings at 8pm. If anyone is interested please get in touch, it’s open to people of all abilities. We hope to start back Monday 25th of September!

LAOIS AGE FRIENDLY INFORMATION EVENT: Laois Public Participation Network in association with Laois County Council and Laois Older People’s Forum are hosting a Laois Age Friendly information event on Tuesday 26th September at 3pm in the Killeshin Hotel, Portlaoise. We will have exhibitors providing information about the Fair Deal Scheme, nursing homes, legal advice, financial services, personal         security, fire prevention, health/fitness and well-being and much more. At 6pm on the same evening the Launch of the Age Friendly Business Recognition Scheme will take place where 50 businesses from across County Laois will be presented with an Age Friendly Charter and relevant publicity material. The           afternoon is open to all to attend and refreshments will be provided. We hope to see you there.

Prisoners are easy to forget, locked in institutions, they seem to disappear from society?s sight, but prisoners still belong to society that incarnates them. Most will eventually be released and the experience they have in prison will greatly affect their ability to adjust to life ‘outside’ as law abiding   citizens.
