THIRD LAOIS DURROW SCOUTS NEWS: The real camping season is starting next weekend with the Scouts competing in the County Shield. They have to set up camp on their own and build a few gadgets such as a dresser to hold the cooker and an altar fire. If they do well in the competition, they will be heading off to Pallinaskerry in Limerick at the end of August for the national Phoenix Challenge. If you are interested in joining us? DURROW DEVELOPMENT FORUM: Thank You: Durrow Development Forum wish to thank everybody who supported their recent cake sale for the Cuisle Centre Portlaoise. The total amount taken in from the cake sale, raffle and a donation from DDF brings the amount up to €700. The winners of the raffle were: First – Emer Murphy; Second – Margaret Donohue; Third –  Declan Phelan; Fourth – Roisin Phelan and Fifth Marlena Tobin. Well done to all!
Wanted for this Year’s Scarecrow Festival: The Scarecrow Volunteers Group are on the lookout for Sheets of Ply board (they don’t have to be new) and Corriboard and if anybody has any old tents, even if they are not waterproof, we would appreciate if you recycling these items to us for our scarecrow displays.

CULLOHILL ICA: Cullohill ICA held their April monthly meeting in Cullohill Community Centre on Tuesday night last. Votes of sympathy were passed and prayers said for the families of Madeline Cahill, Nancy Keogh (nee Dunphy), the Alyward family and the cousins of John Hennessey. May they all Rest In Peace. There was a very good Tupperware demonstration held on the night which was interesting and enjoyable and anyone interested in items can contact Mary Bennett in Urlingford on (085) 2387669. Agnes Barnaville and Mary Bergin won the raffle. There will be no meeting in June as we will be on the Laois Federation outing to Kerry.

GIVE BLOOD: The Blood Transfusion Mobile unit will be in Durrow at The Castle Arms Hotel on Thursday May 17th from 4.30 pm to 8.00pm. We appeal to anyone who can donate blood to come and give the gift of life by giving blood. A special appeal to all our younger people over the age of 18 years old to come and donate blood. Your donation will save lives.

LAOIS ROSE 2018: Local woman Niamh Clancy been nominated as one of the Laois Roses and the selection night was held on Sunday, 6th May where the prestigious Laois Rose 2018 Grainne Hogan was selected. Proceeds of the raffle on the night went towards the GAA club of the winning Rose as each Rose has nominated a GAA Club to receive money for their nominated club to go towards jerseys and hurls etc… Niamh Clancy, Fermoyle, Durrow was  kindly sponsored by Castle Durrow and everybody in the community wished her the very best of luck!
