THIRD LAOIS DURROW SCOUTS NEWS: The weather didn’t keep the scouts in for the parade. The Beavers led the 3rd Laois Durrow in uniform and the Cubs followed in their Viking attire. We were delighted to be accompanied by Mary’s grandchildren from America. If you are interested in the outdoors and like to show skills to others, why don’t you join us? COMMUNITY FIRST RESPONDERS – DURROW: Would you help someone in the community if they needed you? Help save a life today!!! A public meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 28th at The Castle Arms Hotel from 7.30pm to discuss one way that we can make this become a reality. Please come out and bring a friend… because together we are stronger!

ST. PATRICK’S DAY FESTIVAL 2018: Thank you so much to all who came out to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. To The Civil Defence, Fire Brigade, David Finnegan our St. Patrick, Susan Lawlor our grand Marshall, all our clubs, organizations, businesses, community, traders and volunteers alike who came out to     support despite the biting cold. We appreciate you celebrating with us.

WANTED FOR THIS YEAR’S SCARECROW FESTIVAL: The Scarecrow Volunteers Group are on the lookout for Sheets of Ply board (they don’t have to be new), A working Sewing Machine, Jeans and  Clothing, Children’s Dungarees and Shirts, Duvets, Pillows, Cushions, Curtains, Material Soft plastic and Bubble Wrap. Also if anybody has any old tents, even if they are not waterproof, we would appreciate if you recycling these items to us for our scarecrow displays.

The Scarecrow Festival was a real highlight of 2017 thanks to all the volunteers!

SCARECROW MAKING is planned to continue each Wednesday from 8pm in the old ICA hall (DDF New Headquarters) All are welcome!
CAKE SALE IN AID OF CUISLE CENTRE: Durrow Development Forum will hold a Cake Sale to support the Cuisle Centre, Portlaoise on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th of April after both Masses, in the     Presentation Centre. Cakes can be dropped in for sale before Mass on each day. Please do call in for a cup of tea, coffee, cake and a chat to support this very worthy and local support centre.
JUNIOR TIDY TOWNS: If anybody is interested in setting up a Junior Tidy Towns Committee can they please get in contact with Evelyn Clancy on (087) 9194428, Gearòid Ryan on (086) 8125383 or Emer O’Brien on (087) 9626350. Children in the community play a big part in the tidy towns competition and your input can make a huge improvement in what you want for your village!

Durrow Tidy Towns: The Tidy towns committee are very active in Durrow with the help of our local CE Scheme, a lot of improvement have been made and we would ask every resident and business to keep the outside of their homes and premises neat and tidy.

Shouldn’t all of Laois be spotlessly clean?

VHI MINI-MARATHON: This year’s VHI Mini-Marathon takes place on Sunday June 3rd and entries are open for anyone who wishes to take part. You can enter by getting the official form in the Evening Herald newspaper on Wednesdays or Saturdays or on the internet at www.vhiminimarathon.ie online. Entries close on May 18th or before if the allowed quota of runners have been reached. So don’t be disappointed and enter now. The entry fee is just €23.
CULLOHILL ICA: The next ICA meeting will be on Tuesday April 3rd.

PRESENTATION CENTRE: The Presentation Centre beside the Catholic Church is available for hire. For further information please contact Angela on (087) 1928522.

Congratulations to Castle Durrow on being chosen in the top 11 venues to get married amongst all the beautiful venues in the Historical Hotels in Europe. Well done and a huge congratulations to Peter, Shelly and all the staff who do an excellent job and deserve all the awards that they
