Donaghmore Famine Workhouse Museum
Description
The Workhouse Museum is situated on the R435 between Borris in Ossory and Rathdowney here in County Laois, J 19 on the M7 the workhouse is approx 3 miles from the M7 and the M8 is approx 10miles away
Donaghmore Workhouse and Agricultural Museum. It’s one of only a handful of Workhouse buildings still standing today in Ireland. It was commissioned in 1850 and was opened in 1853.
The Museum also contains a wide range of Agricultural and Household collections, depicting the rural way of life in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
