The cycling event was launched in 2013 to raise much needed funds for Laois LSP’s S.I.D. programme. The 2013 cycle supported by Portlaoise Rotary Club was a week-long tour from France back to Portlaoise. This year’s event will have a one day format, with cyclists touring a circuit of county Laois.

Commencing in Portlaoise the inclusive cycle will see participants with a choice of taking either a 120-km or 60-km route around the county. Organisers hope the event will attract a large number of cyclists from local clubs looking for a fun challenge and leisure cyclists who wish to support a very worthy cause.

The funds raised from the event will allow Laois Sports Partnership to continue to provide sports activities for over 400 people with disabilities in Laois.

With the assistance of over 250 volunteers, they run programmes such as Tandem Cycling, Laois Boccia League, Soccer, Basketball/Wheelchair Basketball, Inclusive Leisure Centre Activities, Athletics, Badminton to name put a few.

Due to the continuous restrictions in funding Laois Sports Partnership needs to raise €25,000 annually in order to maintain this Disability Programme, co-ordinated by local paralympian Garrett Culliton.

The entry fee for participants is €30 with a €5 discount for Cycling Ireland members. To register log on to www.laoissports.ie, where full details of distance, routes and timings for the event can also be found.
