Artists in Schools Scheme
Artist Residency with Annie Holland at Scoil Tighearnach Naofa, Cullohill
Last week the Arts Office visited Scoil Tighearnach Naofa, Cullohill to see the work in progress at the school, funded though the Laois County Council Artists in Schools Scheme 2014. Local artist Annie Holland was busy helping the students to design and decorate ceramic tiles for their re-sited outdoor garden . The project began with brainstorming sessions with the children and they came up with various ideas and designs on paper taking inspiration from the four seasons. These wonderful drawings are then transferred onto the clay tiles, painted and then fired. The tiles will then be used to decorate a series of raised beds, that in turn will give the children more ownership of the garden project.

Laois Arts Office runs the artists-in-schools scheme allowing collaboration between artists in any art form and pupils from the primary and second level schools. Since its inception of the programme, 80 schools in the county will have benefited from some wonderfully creative and imaginative arts projects, and worked with highly professional artists.
The Arts Office acknowledges the financial support of the Arts Council and the continued support of the members, staff and management of Laois County Council in the running of the Arts Programme.
