Mountrath and District Cycling Club

The last few weeks have seen Mountrath a hive of activity, with the New Year came a new impetus for the formation of a cycling club. Under the auspice of Mountrath Community Forum, cycling enthusiast both young and old came together to form a club affiliated with Cycling Ireland. With a committee in place and with nearly 40 registered and insured members, the club was able to hold its first event on the 7th of February.

On this bright and breezy morning, 10 hardy souls completed the trip from Mountrath to Borris in Ossory and back in just under two hours. While not a particularly long circuit, strong headwinds coupled with a number of tough hills made the outgoing trip challenging to say the least. After a short break in Borris, the team returned to Mountrath in short order, completing what will be the first of many events throughout the year.

For anyone interested in joining, full details of the club can be found on our Facebook page here (Mountrath and District Cycling Club), or by emailing mountrathcyclingclub@gmail.com.
