A social evening organised by the Lourdes Committee will take place on Friday September 22 in the Pint-O-Port from 9pm until late. Music by J.L. Laffan Sound. Everyone very welcome.


Weekly Bingo returns on Wednesday September 6 & every Wednesday night in Portarlington Social Services Centre at 8.30pm. Come along for a few games of bingo & a cuppa after. Looking forward to seeing you all after the Summer break.

A big thanks once again to everyone who gave so generously to our Meals on Wheels collection days. Thanks to Daniels Centra Main St & McLoughlins Supervalu for allowing us to collect on their premises. A  big thanks to all who helped with the collection.

Congratulations to Mia Jo Phelan Congress Tce who dedicated herself to looking after her hair for about 2 years to donate to charity.  She raised €311.00 for Team Shan Tynan #histiowarrior. Her hair will go to the Rapunzel foundation. Mia would like to thank everyone who sponsored her.  Also a special thank you to D Hair Diary – DhD for doing an amazing job. If anyone would like to still make a donation for Team Shan Tynan # histiowarrior, you can PM her Mam, Jenny Kelly on her Facebook page or call to Jenny in the Love Port office in the Community Centre. Portarlington Happy Hearts Club are opening after the Summer Holidays on Thursday September 7th & every Thursday in the Community Centre 2pm to 4pm. New & existing members welcome. Plenty of activities to suit both men & women.


Irish American Shane Ryan who represented ireland in the 2016 Rio Olympics and whose dad Tom is a Portarlington native took Gold at World University Swimming Games.

An Irish – American, with roots in Portarlington on the Laois Offaly border, has claimed Gold for Ireland at the World University Games in Taipei. Shane won Gold in the 50 metre backstroke smashing the Irish record for the second time in as many days with a winning time of 24.72 seconds.

His time was also one of the fastest times in the event this year. Congratulations Shane from everyone in Portarlington.


A Pub Quiz will take place on Thursday September 14 in the Anvil Inn commencing at 8pm. All proceeds go to “My Canine Companion”. This is a national charity whose main purpose is to provide highly trained & skilled service dogs to people with disabilities, particularly autism. Each service dog cost the charity just over €10,000 to train. Please come along on the night, enjoy the quiz and support this worthy cause.


Deepest Sympathy to Bill & Bridget Carmody & family Gracefield on the death of Bill’s sister Loretta Gomezne (nee Carmody) England & formerly Monasterevin. Loretta lived in England for many years & she will be sadly missed by her family & friends. Burial took place on Friday September 1 in England. May Loretta rest in Peace.
