HAPPY HEARTS

Portarlington Active Retirement / Happy Hearts Club has resumed after the Christmas holidays. We meet every Thursday between 2 and 4 in the Community Centre. Over 55’s welcome to join us in lots of activities which include Bingo, Bowls, Cards, Art, Table Tennis, Darts, Rings, Table Quiz, Talks, Sing-along, Crafts & Dancing. You can also come along on day trips (approx 7 short breaks throughout the year). New members over 55 always welcome. Further information contact Barbara on 086-1999405.

PORTARLINGTON SENIOR CITIZENS

Portarlington Senior Citizens Committee would like to say sincere thanks to everyone who supported their raffle by buying tickets, selling tickets or by sponsorship of prizes. All support given is really appreciated and help to make our yearly event such a success for Portarlington Senior Citizens.

Dancing continues every Monday night in The Gandon Inn, from 9.30pm to 11.30pm in aid of Portarlington St V de Paul. February 20-John & Terry.   Come along for a great night out.  Admission €7.  All welcome.

ST PATRICK’S NIGHT DANCNG

Portarlington St Vincent de Paul are holding an additional fundraising dance on Friday March 17 at 9.30pm. Dancing to Done & Dusted. Come along for a great night of ballroom & jigs & reels dancing. No partner needed. All welcome. Admission €8.

Portarlington St Patrick’s Day Parade

The St Patrick’s Day parade committee would like to invite you all to view the activities for the day.

Events this year-Annual Childrens Colouring Competition in conjunction with Portarlington Library. Ceili night on Saturday March 11.  The parade on March 17 will start at 3.30pm. Our group has gone above and beyond this year to Celebrate St Patricks Day and with a limited budget struggle to raise awareness of our events. . GALA CHARITY BALL

This brilliant glitz and glamour ball is on Friday February 24 in the Heritage Hotel Killenard in aid of Laois Down Syndrome. Book your ticket or table of friends and enjoy the night of the year. TABLE QUIZ
A Table Quiz will take place on Friday February 17 commencing 8.30pm in Portarlington Golf Club Garryhinch. ALL welcome. €40 for a team of 4. Hot snacks will be served on the night.

PORT TRAIL WALKING GROUP

All our walks continue every week. Monday nights at 7.30pm for beginners. Walk takes about 30 minutes. Meet at Park Lane car park beside the Medicentre.

Advanced walk Tuesday & Thursday nights at 6.45pm from the Park Lane car park also. It is great to see so many people joining us on the walks and hope that you will continue to so.

PCDA DERRYOUNCE WALK

Another 7K fundraising walk takes place on Saturday February 25. Registration from Derryounce walkway on Bog road @ 2pm. Walk start time @ 2.30pm. All funds raised will go to the P.C.D.A. ongoing projects.

Deepest Sympathy to the family of Breda Mullaney (nee Maher), Church View & formerly Granard Co. Longford who passed away on Tuesday February 2 at Oakdale Nursing Home Portarlington. Breda was predeceased by her loving husband Eugene. She will be sadly missed by her sister in law Alice Maher & all the Maher & Morrissey families & her extended family & friends. Requiem Mass took place on February 4 in St Michael’s Church, with burial after in Granardkille Cemetery Longford. May Breda rest in Peace.

Sympathy to the family of Kevin McNellis formerly Market Sq who passed away in Traratgon, Victoria Australia. Kevin will be deeply missed by all his family and friends in Australia and Ireland. Memorial Service took place on Saturday February 11 in St Michael’s Church, with burial of ashes in the family plot in St Michael’s Cemetery. May Kevin rest in Peace.

REGISTRATION-Portarlington GAA registration for all players and members is now open for the 2017 season. Registration can be paid every Wednesday between 7-9pm in the small meeting room. Adult membership €40. Child membership €25. Family membership €60.
Family membership is 2 parents/guardians and all children under 18 years of age.

TRAINING-U6 football training has started again for 2017 and is on Sunday Mornings at 10am in the hall. Hurling training for all ages is at 11am every Sunday in the hall.

 

COUNTY DRAW-It’s the Laois GAA All County Draw time and we would ask you to support the club by buying a ticket yourself or split the cost between a family / friends .This is a major fundraiser for both CLG Laois and for Portarlington GAA .Tickets sold are entered into the 4 draws with 25 prizes in each draw which have jackpots ranging from €10,000 down to €250.Tickets can be obtained from our Treasurer Madeline Ward at 085 1018048 or in the GAA Centre every Wednesday night or from any committee member.

POKER CLASSIC
