PORT TRAIL WALKING GROUP

Beginners Walking Group has started. This is an open group & you can join in at anytime.
Suitable for beginner’s level of fitness and the walk will take about 30 minutes. The routes will be optional. Meeting up at Park Lane car park beside the Medicentre every Monday night at 7.30pm. Contact Donie at 086-3288858 for any information on the walk.
We have also resumed our Tuesday & Thursday night walks. Make a New Year’s resolution and come along and join our walks and improve your health and fitness for 2017. We cater for all levels of fitness and vary our routes as the evenings get longer. Meeting up at Park Lane car park beside the Medicentre at 6.45pm on both evenings. St Vincent de Paul (Dancing)

Dancing continues every Monday night in The Gandon Inn, from 9.30pm to 11.30pm in aid of Portarlington St V de Paul. January 23-Caitriona.   Come along for a great night out.  Admission €7.  All welcome.

Our meetings continue as usual in 2017 on Tuesday & Friday in the Scouts Den on Main Street from 2.30-5pm. Parents & children welcome. Come in for a cuppa, a chat & some games if you like. Volunteer drivers needed to transport people. Phone: 087-2788472.

 

Junior Band For Portarlington

Pat Donegan is doing powerful work to put together a Junior Band for Portarlington & surrounding areas. He is inviting boys & girls age 9 years & older to join. Instruments provided, which include Flutes, Clarinets, Trumpets, Trombones, Saxophones, Drums & Percussion & low Brass. Parents can contact Pat @ 083-8570428 for more details. GREASE THE MUSICAL

Coláiste Íosagáin will be staging the ever popular musical, Grease on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday January  18, 19 & 20 at 8pm. Tickets are available from Ms. Bergin at a sales booth in reception (NOT the ‘office’) at lunchtimes all week. Cost €5 for students and €10 for adults.

Present “CHESHIRE CATS” By GAIL YOUNG on Thursday, Friday, Saturday 9, 10 & 11 March.

Nightly at. 8pm in the Community Arts Centre Mountmellick. A lively, comic and sometimes poignant ensemble piece. Promises to be a fun night out…..See you there. Annual Dinner Dance

O’Dempsey’s GAA Annual Dinner Dance & medal presentation to our victorious Intermediate and U21 teams will take place on Friday February 3 at 8pm in The Heritage Hotel Killenard. Entertainment will be provided on the night by Damian Carroll and the Electrix. Tickets are €35 or €20 for students. SYMPATHY

Deepest Sympathy to the family of Ronald (Ronnie) Mathews, Station Road who passed away on Sunday January 8. Ronnie was predeceased by his loving wife Brigitte. He will be sadly missed by his sons Paul, Tim & Stefan, daughter Julie, brother Jack, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family & many friends. Ronnie will be remembered for his vast knowledge in History, books that he wrote & his involvement with the Lea Castle Conservation Project. He was the founding member of this group & he will be remembered fondly by all the Committee. Funeral Service took place on Wednesday January 11 in St Paul’s Church Portarlington, with burial after in the Friends Burial Ground Rosenallis. May Ronnie rest in Peace.

Sympathy to the family of Tom Carey formerly St Brigid’s Sq who passed away on Saturday January 7. Predeceased by his sons Anthony & Thomas. Deeply regretted by his sons Vincent (America), Patrick (Australia) & Christy (Cloneyhurke), his brothers Brendan, Colm & Patrick, sister Helen, grandchildren, extended family & friends. Requiem Mass took place on Tuesday January 10 in St Michael’s Church, with burial in St Michael’s Cemetery. May Tom rest in Peace.
