CHRISTMAS EXTRAVAGANZA
The 4th Annual Christmas Extravaganza will take place once more in the Heritage Hotel Killenard on Sunday December 18 at 8pm. Tickets now on sale, which can be bought from Julia Leavy, Ann (Bourke) Dunne, Margaret Guijt Lawlor & Lillie Shiels. Also call to the Love Port office in the Community Centre. Tickets €10.
Proceeds this year to the Portarlington Lourdes Invalid Fund & the Portarlington Community Development Association ongoing Projects. A great night assured as usual.

Portarlington Speakers
How to improve your performance in business meetings, motivating people, job interviews, selling ideas or products, and solving problems?
Portarlington Speakers have had a great year in 2016 but need additional members if they are to continue into 2017. If you are interested in a local club where you can practise speaking before an audience in a friendly supportive club, learn communication and leadership skills, and make new friends come along to our next meeting on Tuesday December 6 at the Heritage Hotel, Killenard from 7.45pm to 9.30pm. It is fun; it is entertaining; it is rewarding, and it is on your doorstep but we need additional members if we are to continue in the New Year. See us on Facebook.
Multicultural Night
On Friday December the 9 from 8-10 pm we invite you to join the pupils, parents, staff and extended community of St Patrick’s BNS for a night of music, dance, fashion and ethnic cuisine. See the exhibitions of students work and enjoy the opportunity to meet new people and learn about the many different and vibrant cultures in our community.
Proceeds in aid of the Cuisle Centre. Your support on the night would be most welcome.
MICHAEL’S FOLK CHOIR
Christmas Carol Service on Sunday December 18 in St. Michael’s Church commencing at 5pm Come along with your family & friends to enjoy traditional Carols along with some festive cheer. Treats for all the children & for the grown-up’s who join in.
MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL IN IRELAND
Congratulations to local girl Oonagh Hoey who was 1st runner up in the Most Beautiful Girl in Ireland competition. Oonagh is daughter of Kieran & Carol Hoey & sister of Ryan & Aoife. They are all so proud of her as is the people of Portarlington. Best of luck Oonagh in your future career.

St Vincent de Paul (Dancing)
Dancing continues every Monday night in The Gandon Inn, from 9.30pm to 11.30pm in aid of Portarlington St V de Paul. December 12-Derek Veale. December 19- Come along for a great night out. Admission €7. All welcome. Tickets for our Annual Christmas Cake are now available for raffle to take place on Monday December 12. Tickets €2 strip or 3 strips for €5.

Deepest Sympathy to the family of Carmel Crombie (nee O’Reilly} Pine Villa & formerly Marian Hill who passed away on Saturday November 26. Carmel will be sadly missed by her husband Hughie, sons Darren, Hughie (jnr) & James, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, extended family & many friends. Requiem Mass took place on Tuesday November 29 in St Michael’s Church, with a guard of honour from her friends in the St Vincent de Paul shop where Carmel helped out voluntary. KESTRELS CELEBRATE
Kestrels Basketball are having an evening to celebrate the Hawks Basketball in Portarlington (where it all began- so to speak) on December 17 at their National League game. Kestrels v Fr. Mathews in Colaiste Iosagain followed up in the Anvil. They are trying to get in contact with former players, so if anyone knows anyone that was on the team, be sure to let them know.
