St Vincent de Paul (Dancing)

Dancing continues every Monday night in The Gandon Inn, from 9.30pm to 11.30pm in aid of Portarlington St V de Paul. November 7-Checkers. Come along for a great night out. Admission €7. All welcome. Tickets for our annual Christmas Cake will be available in the coming weeks for raffle to take place on Monday December 12. Tickets €2 strip or 3 strips for €5. Cake kindly made & donated by Maura Porter.

Christmas Dance in the Gandon
Portarlington St V de Paul will hold their Annual Christmas dance in the Gandon Inn on Friday December 2. Music by the fabulous Checkers. Dancing from 9.30pm to 12am. Spot prizes & raffle on the night. Come along for a great night out. No partners needed. Admission €8.

Blessing of the Graves will take place on Sunday November 6 in St John’s Cemetery Killenard after 10.30am Mass & in St Michael’s Cemetery Portarlington at 3pm.
Arthritis Ireland – Laois Branch
Gentle Zumba Classes with Suzanne Toumi commence this Tuesday evening (November 1) at St. Mary’s Hall, Old Dublin Rd., Portlaoise. Career Guidance, Psychology, Student Finance and Student Welfare. It will be held on Thursday November 10 at 8pm in Coláiste Íosagáin. Portarlington Credit Union will be offering a €1,000 bursary to a 6th year student going to college in 2017. Application forms will be available on the night. We would like to thank Portarlington Credit Union for sponsoring one of the guest speakers.

Sympathy
Deepest Sympathy to the family of William (Billy) Downey, Dublin & formerly Portarlington & CIE who passed away in his 101st year on October 18. Predeceased by his loving wife Bridget. Billy will be sadly missed by his son Michael, daughters Anne & Betty, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family & friends.

Requiem Mass took place on Friday October 21 in the Church of St Francis Xavier, Gardiner St, with burial in Dardistown Cemetery. May Billy rest in Peace.
Multi-Cultural Week
Following a very successful Multi-Cultural Week in 2014, St. Patrick’s BNS are delighted to announce that their Multi-Cultural Week 2016 will run from December 5-9.
With lots of activities planned in the school throughout the week, it promises to be another great event for everyone in Portarlington. The week will culminate with a Multi-Cultural Night on December 9 in the Community Centre, from 7pm-9pm.
All support is welcome on the night, so please join them in celebrating the wide diversity of cultures within our community.

RAINBOW PROGRAMME
The Rainbow Programme for Primary School children of the parish aged 7-13 years will commence in the Presentation Primary School, Station Road on Wednesday Nov 9 from 2.30pm – 3.15pm and every Wednesday at the same time.

The programme consists of twelve sessions, one session weekly with two ‘Celebrate Me’ days. Rainbows’ is a support programme for children who have experienced death, a separation or are struggling through a painful experience. If you are interested in acquiring more information to have your child or children take part in this programme contact Ursula or Dolores on 057- 8623007. (Mon. – Fri. 9am – 2.30pm School hours).
