Our 23rd Cash Prize Draw took place on Saturday September 17. Portarlington Credit Union

International Credit Union Day will be celebrated on Thursday October 20. Our Annual Mass for the deceased members of Portarlington Credit Union will be at 10am followed by refreshments and entertainment from 11 am in Portarlington Credit Union. Great prizes to be won. Everyone welcome to call in and enjoy the celebrations.

BENEFIT NIGHT

The Benefit night for Tom “Chubby” Dempsey’s Treatment Fund” takes place in the Pint O Port on Saturday October 15.  There will be further Facebook posts regarding Benefit night over the next few weeks.

Mass including a blessing with a relic of Saint Pio takes place on Friday October 7 at 7.30pm

in St Peter & Pauls Church Portlaoise. Preceded at 7pm with the showing in the Church of ” The Seraphic Life” a video on a day in the life of Saint Pio. Mass Celebrant Fr Paddy Byrne, Portlaoise.

Community Notice – Public Consultation Day – Draft Flood Risk Management Plans for the Laois Area.

Draft Flood Risk Management Plans have been produced by RPS on behalf of the Office of Public Works. These Plans set out the preferred feasible measures to manage significant flood risk within each geographic area known as a Unit of Management. A Public Consultation Day will be held on Wednesday October 12 as follows-Laois County Council, Áras an Chontae, Portlaoise, Co. Laois between 2pm and 7pm.

This event will cover the following areas within Units of Management 14 and 15: Athy, Ballyroan, Carlow, Mountmellick, Mountrath, Portarlington, Portlaoise and Rathdowney.

The OPW wants to give local people the opportunity to comment on the draft Flood Risk Management Plans before they are finalised. Please come along on the day, view the draft plan for your area and provide any comments you may have.

Deepest Sympathy to Ann O’Meara & family Annamoe on the recent death of her brother Michael P Barry, Glasheen Cork & formerly Patrick St. Michael will be sadly missed by his loving wife Ann, daughter Deirdre & son Michael, grandchild, his extended family & friends. Requiem Mass took place on Thursday September 22 in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, the Lough, with Cremation at the Island Crematorium, Ringaskiddy. May Michael rest in Peace.

Simon Sleep Out

Midlands Simon Community invites people from across Laois to get involved or support in its Sleep Out for Simon in Laois GAA’s HQ, O’Moore Park, Portlaoise on Friday October 21. The event will support services for the homeless. Charity Dance

In aid of East Midlands Parkinson’s and Laois Alzheimer’s will take place in the Castle Arms Hotel, Durrow on Friday October 14 with music by Eamon Jackson and his band.  Admission €15 and dancing from 9.30 to 12.30.  There will also be a monster raffle on the night with the first prize of a meal for 2 in Ballyfin Demense, plus many more fabulous prizes.  Please support!

 

Parkinson’s Patient Conference

East Midlands Parkinson’s are hosting a patient conference day in the Keadeen Hotel, Newbridge, Co. Kildare on Sunday October 16 from 10.30am to 4 pm.  Guest speakers include Dr. Richard Walsh, Neurologist Talllaght Hospital, Ms. Marion Slattery,  Occupational Therapsit,  Brian Magennis, Parkinson’s Nurse specialist, Mater Hospital and Ms. Dee Daly Psychotherapist.  This is a free day which includes lunch.  All welcome as it promises to be a very informative day. Valuing Volunteers

As part of Laois Connects week, a “Valuing Volunteers” presentation will take place in Portlaoise Parish Centre on Monday October 10 from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

Speakers include Stuart Garland from Volunteer Ireland and Finola Colgan from Mental Health Ireland. The above event will be of interest to all volunteers or people who wish to become volunteers and all are welcome. Refreshments will be provided.
