PCDA Fundraising Walk

PCDA/Derryounce Project Fundraising walk 5K & 10K takes place on Saturday September 24.
Registration at 2pm at the Hawthorn Bar, Patrick Street. Start time 2.30pm. Route: Derryounce. Cost €5. 5K approx 1 hour. 10K approx 2 hours. Refreshments after in the Hawthorn. For further information please contact PCDA/ Love Port office on 085 -8568801.

Laois Heritage Society (Journal No 8)

This event takes place at Heath House (courtesy of Marc & Roisin Hussey) on Saturday September 24 at 6.30pm. The Journal will be launched by Michael Starrett CEO of the Heritage Council. Light refreshments will be served.


Information For Over 50s

Laois Public Participation are holding an Information Session for the Over 50s on September 29 from 2 – 5pm in Emo Community Centre (GAA grounds).  This event is free and open to all.  We will have stands providing information about the Fair Deal Scheme, Nursing Homes, Legal advice, Financial services, Personal security, fire prevention, health/fitness and wellbeing and many more.  Refreshments will be available on the day.  For further information please call Pamela Tynan, Laois PPN on 057- 8665661 or email

The Benefit night for Tom “Chubby” Dempsey’s Treatment Fund” in the Pint O Port has been changed to Saturday October 15.  There will be further Facebook posts regarding Benefit night over the next few weeks.

Deepest Sympathy to the Maher family Gracefield on the death of Fintan Maher Templeogue Dublin & formerly Gracefield who passed away on September 9. Fintan was predeceased by his wife Rya, sister Moira, brothers Paddy & Jackie. He will be sadly missed by his partner Marion, his extended, family & a large circle of friends. Requiem Mass took place in St John’s Church Killenard, with burial after in the adjoining Cemetery. May Fintan rest in Peace.

Portarlington Wheelers

Club cycle. We are planning on meeting up early on Sunday September 25 at the Anvil for a photo shoot. We would encourage as many folks as possible to turn up. From there we will head over to the Fishermans in Fisherstown for either the 100km or 50km cycle. Proceeds for the cycle are in aid of Emo / Rath Senior Citizens.

Later that evening we will have a barbecue back in the Anvil starting at 5pm. Family and friends very welcome.


For all your needs on 2 Wheels

The Fisherstown 100km and 50km cycle will be starting and finishing at the Fishermans Inn, Fisherstown, Ballybrittas Co. Laois. Refreshments for all afterwards. Feeding station on top of the cut (it’s all downhill from here!!) on the 100 km route. Certs of completion for all on return and a few prizes for participants also.
