Portarlington Speakers off to a Strong Start
Noreen Diver as Topics Master gave a very stimulating topics session where members took full advantage of the opportunity to give one or two minute speeches on unprepared subjects. Impromptu speaking like this prepares us for all those occasions both socially and at work when we have to think on our feet and give immediate responses.
Remember those childhood holidays when the sun always shone and the places were magical? Gaynor Deacy took us back with our buckets and spades to such a wonderland with a speech full of imagery and charm. Donal Cahill amazed us as he gave a very humorous account of his imagined life as cat food taster!

Club President Carmel Moore welcoming newest member Geraldine Kennedy
Portarlington Speakers are now starting off a new season. It is a very cost effective way to improve your performance in business meetings, motivating people, job interviews, selling ideas or products, and solving problems. You can practise speaking before an audience in a friendly supportive club, where you can learn communication and leadership skills, make new friends, and have some craic.
Anyone interested is invited to come along of one of the meetings. Next meeting is on Tuesday September 20 at the Heritage Hotel, Killenard from 7.45pm to 9.30pm.
INTERESTED IN QUILTING
If you are a quilter, any level, or interested in learning more about or taking it up as a hobby, we are going to establish a group for quilters in Laois and surrounding areas. The library in Mountmellick has kindly let us use the chambers at the front of the building to meet on Saturday September 24 at 10 am. We will discuss our vision and expectations for the future. In order to plan ahead, we need as many as possible to join us in the discussion at this first meeting. Therefore we ask you to spread the word. For further information contact Ethelda Ellis at etheldaellis@gmail.com or Annette Doolan on 087-988-1046.
