Derryounce Walks

The PCDA committee would like to thank the 70 plus people who turned up for their walks on Saturday August 27. It was a glorious warm day for the event. We had 2 groups. One group doing the 10K walk & another doing the 5K walk. Refreshments were served back in the Hawthorn after the walk. We would like to thank everyone who helped out on the day. Less than 2 weeks to go Ladies. Do you have your tickets yet? Little Black Dress night takes place on Friday September 16 in O’ Deas Pub, Portarlington. Tickets are €10 and are available from the Portarlington Community Development Association office (Love Port) in the Community Centre. All proceeds for the night in support of local community projects by the Portarlington Community Development Association. Tickets are limited so to avoid disappointment please contact the Love Port office on 085-8568801.

Dancing continues every Monday night in The Gandon Inn, from 9.30pm to 11.30pm in aid of Portarlington St V de Paul. September 12-Tony Nugent. September 19-The Kelly Family.  Come along for a great night out.  Admission €7.  All welcome.

Portarlington Social Services will resume their weekly Bingo on next Wednesday September 7th @ 8.30 in the Centre Link Rd.  Looking forward to seeing all our regulars & new people welcome also.

Gavin’s 30ft Rock Climb

Gavin Allman originally from Avondale Estate is doing an Awesome Challenge of a 30ft Rock Climb for Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind because of their 40 year anniversary. Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind is an established and trusted charity that supports more than 350 working Guide and Assistance Dog partnerships nationally. They provide unique life-changing services to people who are vision impaired and to families of children with Autism.

Gavin is aiming to raise €1,000 for the Irish Guide Dogs. If you can’t attend the Table Quiz you can donate online to JustGiving. Donating through JustGiving is simple and totally secure. Your details are safe. Once you donate your money goes directly to the Charity.

Portarlington Bridge Club resumes on Wednesday September 21 at 7.45pm in the Garryhinch  Golf Club.


Texas Hold’em will take place every Thursday night in the Pint O’Port starting at 9pm. €15 buy in for 25,000 chips. Re-buy in for €10. If knocked out before the break for same value of chips starting off.

Portarlington Friends Together meets every Tuesday & Friday in the Scouts Den Main St from 2.30-5pm. This is a free club where people can meet for a chat & a cuppa, play a game of cards or some board games. Meet new people & make friends.


Happy Hearts

The Happy Hearts club returned on Thursday September 1. It will now continue every Thursday  from 2-4pm in the Community Centre with lots of variety on offer. Looking forward to seeing all former members & inviting new members to join us also.

5K RUN TO REMEMBER/Port Community Centre

This year at our Run to Remember Fundraising Event on  September 11  we will again be creating our “Remembrance Slideshow”, which will be played while everyone enjoys some well deserved refreshments after their walk/run in remembrance of their loved ones who are no longer with us. run-to-remember-2-210x300
