TEA AND TRENCH CAKE.

Fancy a cup of tea and a slice of trench cake? Trench cake was the name given to the type of cake made by families at home and sent to relatives serving at the front during the First World War. It was considered a great treat by the soldiers receiving it.

Those attending the Somme Commemoration on August 26 in the French Church to commemorate all Irish men who lost their lives at the Battle of the Somme will have the opportunity to try a slice of trench cake with their cup of tea after the talk. The event starts at 8pm, admission is free and all are welcome. This event has kindly been sponsored by the Heritage Officer, Laois County Council as part of Heritage Week 2016.
