Portarlington 1916 Committee
The Committee would like to announce the next event to take place. Sunday August 21 @ 3pm— In 1966 to honour the men from the area who lost their lives in the 1798 rising & to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1916 Rising a Tree was planted near the entrance to the old Lea Cemetery, opposite the entrance to Lea Castle. Now 50 years later it is proposed to plant another tree and to erect a Plaque at the site. There are a few of the people still alive who would have been at the event in 1966 & it would be nice to bring them all together again. Also any family members who would like to attend. There is a photo available on the Portarlington 1916 Commemoration Committee Facebook page here & we also hope to have it on the Leinster in the coming weeks.
