The Kenny Family say Thanks
The family of the late Noel Kenny station Road Portarlington, would like to thank everyone who participated & sponsored them for this year’s VHI mini Marathon for their Charity ” In Memory of Noel 4 Parkinson’s “. Noel was our very special young man who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2011 & to our devastation passed away on February 28th last from complications from his Parkinson’s at the age of 44. He was the kindest friendliest happy young man & even through his illness he had a smile & a hug for everyone. Anyone who had the privilege to know or meet Noel their lives were far richer because he loved everyone unconditionally.
To many Muhammad Ali who sadly passed away recently from complications from Parkinson’s also is often referred to as a legend, Noel is our legend. To keep Noel’s memory alive we decided to participate in this year’s mini Marathon in his honour & also give something back to The Parkinson’s Association of Ireland who helped us in so many ways with support & advice regarding Noel’s condition over the years. To date we have raised over €2,000 with all sponsorship not collected yet. We are delighted with this & we are going to continue with this each year for Noel & for Parkinson’s.

Portarlington Speakers: An Evening of Surprises
Jenny Joseph’s poem “Warning” started an evening of surprises. Gaynor Deacy’s inspired recital of this surprising anticipation of old age left everyone startled, delighted and entertained at the thought of wearing purple, spending one’s pension on brandy, learning to spit and picking flowers in other peoples’ gardens.
Then we were off to the beach with Joanne Molloy but would it be the Hinch or Spanish Point? The suspense grew as we changed track time after time as we avoided traffic jams, roadwork’s and closed roads heading down ever narrowing roads and eventually finding heaven wave jumping at Doonbeg Beach.
Romance, romance and more romance beckoned as Eve Daly took us through a very entertaining exploration of the various stages of true love even including Oscar Wilde’ quote “To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance”.
Carmel Moore was not to be outdone and gave a topic session which had everyone in laughter.
It was an evening well spent. The next meeting of Portarlington Speakers your local Toastmaster Club is at 7.45pm on Tuesday June 21 at the Heritage Hotel Killenard. Why not come along and see for yourself? All are welcome. See us on FaceBook.
