St Vincent de Paul (Dancing)
Dancing continues every Monday night in The Gandon Inn, from 9.30pm to 11.30pm in aid of Portarlington St V de Paul. June 2-The Kelly Family. June 13-Declan Aungier. Come along for a great night out. Admission €7. All welcome.
Portarlington Friends Together continues every Tuesday and Friday from 2.30pm – 5pm in Portarlington Community Centre. Why not drop in for a cuppa and a chat. Board games, cards, quizzes and charades. Transport provided to and from the Club. For further info contact 087- 2788472.
PIONEER TOTAL ABSTINANCE ASSOCIATION A.G.M
A meeting will take place on Thursday June 9 at 8pm in the Portarlington Community Centre. At this meeting we hope to help revive the Pioneer Association here in the town and surrounding areas. Your help and suggestions would be welcome and we would really appreciate if you could attend this meeting.
Portarlington 1916 Committee
The Committee would like to announce the next event which will take place on Sunday July 24th.
The Re-Naming of Spa St. Bridge to the Peadar Macken Bridge. The son of George Macken and Anne Shanahan who lived in Spa Street, Portarlington, Peadar Macken was elected in 1912 to the Dublin Labour Party as an Alderman. He was also on the O’Donovan Rossa funeral committee and he took part in the Rising. He fought at Boland’s Mills and was shot dead on 27th April 1916 and is buried in Glasnevin Cemetery. Macken Street in Dublin is named after him.
Family members related to Peader Macken will be invited to the event.
A note of sincere appreciation to everyone who supported our recent Coffee Morning in aid of the Friends of Tullamore Hospital. Your generosity allowed us to raise a total of €750 for this voluntary charity, whose facilities offers terminally-ill patients a safe and dignified space to spend their last days with family and friends. St Brigid’s Text Alert
Many thanks to all who attended our annual table Quiz on Saturday May 28 in Direens of Cloneygowan. Great night was had by all. Congratulations to all our prize winners in the raffle. Huge Thanks to our generous sponsors on the night, it is much appreciated for your continued support. Thanks also to Direens for letting us host our quiz and for providing refreshments.
All proceeds go towards the ongoing costs of running our text alert in our area. As you can appreciate with nearly 500 subscribers for texts there is a cost involved. Look forward to seeing you at our next fundraiser – watch this space.
Deepest Sympathy to Brian Brereton & his family Avondale Estate on the recent death of his sister Teresa McCoy (nee Brereton) Nottingham England & formerly Bracknagh. Teresa will be sadly missed by her loving husband Dominic, son Sean, sisters Maureen & Evelyn, brothers John-Joe, Kevin, Sylvester, Austin & Brian, her extended family & friends. Requiem Mass took place on Thursday June 2 in St. Edward’s Church, Gordan Rd., Nothingham. Burial afterwards in Wilford Hill Cemetery, Nothingham. May Teresa rest in Peace.

Port Men’s Shed
A Men’s Shed is a dedicated, friendly and welcoming meeting place where men come together and undertake a variety of mutually agreed activities.
Men’s Sheds are open to all men regardless of age, background or ability. It is a place where you can share your skills and knowledge with others, learn new skills and develop your old skills or just to come and chat with other men over a cup of tea or coffee.

Portarlington Lawn Tennis Club
Adult Social Tennis has resumed on Mondays and Thursdays at 8pm. The good weather has arrived so come and join us. The newly cleaned courts are a pleasure to play on. If interested you may try out our courts at other times if courts are available. Ring 087-1231135 now to arrange a booking .
Adult beginners are welcome to try out our courts on Thursday mornings at 11am. No charge for this session. Rackets and balls provided. Babies and toddlers welcome to the courts at this time. Please wear suitable footwear. Beginners may try out our courts at other times for a small charge. There is one place left in Tony’s Intermediate Adult coaching class on Tuesdays at 8pm.
