On May 5 the Parents Council of Colaiste Iosagain Portarlington organised a very successful event for Parents and Senior pupils. This was an information evening about the transition to 3rd Level Education. Annette Duggan – spoke about preparing for exams and study skills. Mary Quirke – spoke about organising oneself for College. Both of the above speakers spoke about SUZI grants. Also Michael McEvoy from Portarlington Credit Union spoke about their services to Parents and Students. The event was very well attended on the night. The Parents Council would like to thank all the parents & pupils who attended & also the Speakers on the night.

Sinead Dempsey and Miriam Holland would like to thank everyone for their help with our annual Colaiste Iosagain 5K run. It was the biggest one to date. A special thanks to the parent’s council and St Michaels AC for helping to steward on the day. Thanks to Aisling Roycroft O’Connor and Port Pharmacy for once again hydrating our students and teachers with their water stations. Thanks to the Primary schools for sending the kids out to support, and also to all the people of Port who cheered the students on.
Portarlington Town FC
Portarlington Town Football Club finished off their long Season in Division 3 of the Combined Counties League by gaining promotion to Division 2. It was a long season for the lads who started back in August 2015 which was extended by some excellent cup runs within their own league and in Leinster, which saw them finish runners-up in their League. Port Town would like to thank The Anvil Inn for their kind Sponsorship this year which was invaluable along with Portarlington Credit Union for their continued support over the last few years. We would also like to thank The Roma ‘Gracefield’ and DB Cabs who also lent their support this season.

COMPASS CLUB BY COILLTE
Compass Camps by Coillte are great for getting kids doing outdoor activities during the school holidays. Running for one week – Monday to Friday for 4 hours a day starting at 10am until 2pm.
A key feature of Compass Club Camps is everyone is involved all the time so there’s no hanging around giving you best value for money. The reason for this is, unlike many nearly all other camps, we keep our camps small in size so your child spends their time doing not queueing!

Fun at Compass Club
Everyone is involved at a level that they are comfortable with at that time. This is brilliant for kids – we don’t force them to do everything – some kids like to watch, see what it’s all about and then try while others just want to jump right into doing and we cater for that with our small groups.
And because kids love Compass Club Afterschool, we keep things fresh and exciting by having a range of different activities on our Camps. But don’t worry, favourites like fire lighting, treasure hunts, toasting marshmallows and energising games will always be part of the fun.
Dates & Locations:
Laois (Portarlington) Corrig/Carrick Wood Summer Camp 18/07/2016.
Laois (Portlaoise) Dysart Woods Summer Camp 15/08/16.
