Friends Together

Portarlington Friends Together meet every Tuesday & Friday in Portarlington Community Centre from 2-5pm. This is a free club where people can meet for a chat & a cuppa, play a game of cards or some board games. Meet new people & make friends. Two phones up and running on 085-2148322 & 085-2148505.

Port’s Centenary Celebrations

The Portarlington 1916 Commemoration committee will be announcing their events to mark the Centenary of the 1916 rising in the coming weeks. Because of the many events during Easter week the Committee decided to hold their events over the coming weeks. Check out their Facebook page or e-mail portarlington1916@gmail.com.

Knitting Club-The library is looking to set up a knitting club which will meet in the library for an hour one morning each week.  Those interested in attending please contact the library for further information (Tel: 05786 43751).

Computer Classes-The library is currently taking names for anyone who wishes to undertake a computer course for beginners.  Contact the library for further details.

Storyteller-If there is a children’s storyteller in the Portarlington area who would like to do regular storytime sessions in the library then do please get in touch on the above telephone number.

Children’s Author Visit

On Friday April 15 at 12.30pm, children’s author Bea Jay Evans will visit Portarlington Library to read from her new book Mia Goes Riding. This event is aimed at children aged 3-7 years and all are welcome to come down to meet Bea Jay on the day and to hear all about Mia.

Scrap Saturday

Lea Castle Conservation Project & Port Coder Dojos are hosting a joint fundraiser – Scrap Saturday on June 25. Please save the date. We will have vehicles available to collect metal, electrical, phones etc. from your home.

AGM

Portarlington Tidy Town’s are holding their AGM on next Thursday April 7 at 8pm in Studio 1 – Community Centre. New members welcome.

As part of this year’s ‘Spring Clean’, Portarlington Tidy Towns intend to organise the cleaning of several areas in the town on Saturday April 9 from 10am which will be completed within 2 hours. Can anyone who wishes to have their road or housing estate included in the clean up please contact David Maher (086) 3475357. The Tidy Towns are asking people on the day to give an hour or two to help in this voluntary effort to clean up your local area. Gloves, rubbish bags and a truck to transport away the rubbish will be available on the day.

REMEMBRANCE SERVICE

The Laois/Offaly Palliative Care Team invite families, friends & carer’s of those who have died in the past two years & have been known to the Palliative Care Team to a Remembrance Service on Friday  April 15 at 7pm in St Peter and Paul’s Church, Portlaoise.

Sympathy

Deepest Sympathy to the family of Mary Chambers (nee Smith) Derrymore & formerly Annamoe who passed away on March 23. Mary will be sadly missed by her sons Michael, Tom & Laurence, daughter Bridget, brothers Tommy (Mountmellick) & Christy (Ballymorris), her grandchildren, extended family & friends. Funeral Liturgy took place on Easter Saturday March 26 in St Michael’s Church, with burial after in St Michael’s Cemetery. May Mary rest in Peace.

The courts are in wonderful condition following cleaning last year by ‘Casey Courts Limited’.
Adult Coaching with Tony Lok begins on Tuesday April 5

Junior members-    Junior membership entitles your child to a Free summer activities program which runs every afternoon, Monday to Friday during the months of July and August.
Tennis Coaching with Tony Lok begins on April 5, 6 & 8. There are a small number of places left
in Tony’s classes on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Ring 087 1231135 to book your child’s place.
Introduce your young child to Tennis. Club Membership is not required for Tony Lok’s 3.15pm beginner coaching classes for children 4 to 6 yrs.  Class numbers are limited to 8 children.
