Treascon Mass

The Annual celebration of Mass will take place at the Mass Rock in Treascon on Wednesday September 2 at 7.30pm. There is parking adjacent to the site both sides of the river. All welcome’

4th Laois Scouts Portarlington

We will be returning for our new scouting year on Monday September 7 for cubs, Tuesday 8 for beavers and Wednesday 9 for scouts and ventures. Unfortunately we have a waiting list for new members who wish to join. You can contact us on Facebook or text 087- 6310994.
If there are any adults who wish to help out or would be interested in becoming a leader then please contact us. Without leaders we would not be able to offer scouting in Portarlington.

Bingo

Portarlington Social Services will resume their weekly Bingo on Wednesday September 9 @ 8.30 in the Centre Link Rd.  Looking forward to seeing all our regulars & new people as well.

Friday Cuppa-Our Friday cuppa will resume in the Social Services Centre on Friday September 11 from 12pm to 3pm. Come along and have lunch & a chat, a sing song or a game of Bingo & get to meet up with friends & meet new people. For more information contact Ann (Bourke) Dunne @ 087-4116101.

Dancing

Dancing continues every Monday night in The Gandon Inn, till midnight in aid of Portarlington St V de Paul. Sept 7-J & S sound. Sept 14-Unity. Sept 21-John & Terry. Sept 28-Dermot Lyons. Come along for a great night out.  Admission €7.  All welcome.

Coffee Morning

Laois Hospice Coffee morning takes place on Thursday September 17. If anyone would like to host a Coffee Morning, it doesn’t matter how big or small, please contact Ann on 087-6270988 for details.

Farmers Market

Emo House Farmers Market & Craft Fair – Every Sunday 10.30am – 4.30pm. Located in Emo Village.  Come and browse the stalls where local crafts are showcased, and you can buy your fresh food from local suppliers. Live music and entertainment.

Baby & Toddler Group

Portarlington Baby & Toddler Group – Every Thursday 11am – 1pm in Portarlington Community Centre.  A great way for parents to meet up with other parents.  Supervised play and activities for children. Suitable for babies to preschoolers. For further information contact 087-2638140 & 086-3032824.

The Baby & Toddler Group will be holding their AGM on September 10 in the Community Centre – looking for new people to help with the running of the group.

Also looking for people to help with fundraising for the Baby and Toddler Group as we received no grant this year.

Portarlington Speakers

Portarlington Speakers’ next meeting will be at 7.45pm on Tuesday September 1 in the upstairs meeting room of the Anvil Inn in Portarlington. All are welcome. Admission to guests free. If you want to improve your communication skills, perhaps become more comfortable when giving presentations or speaking to groups Portarlington Speakers is the place to be. Come along and see for yourself. Also from Tuesday September 8 Speechcraft Workshop on six consecutive Tuesdays designed to give quick help to the inexperienced speaker and to assist the person with some training to become a more polished speaker. Sympathy

Deepest Sympathy to the family of Patrick (Paddy) Mitchell, 18, Derrymore Ballymorris who passed away on Thursday August 20. Paddy will be sadly missed by his loving son Josh, his devoted mother Eileen & father Pat, brother Pierse, sister Rachel, nephew Callum, his extended family & friends. Requiem Mass took place on Sunday August 23 in St. Michael’s Church, with burial after in St. Michaels Cemetery. May Paddy rest in Peace.

Deepest Sympathy to the family of Janey Costello (nee Doyle) St, Brigid’s Sq who passed away at her home on Tuesday August 25. Janey will be sadly missed by her loving husband Liam, sons Billy, Ger, John & James, daughter Maria, brothers Eamon & Ger, sisters Tessie, Nuala (Whelan), Anna (Beacon) & Carmel (Foster), grand-children, great-grandchildren, extended family, neighbours & friends. Active retirement club re-opens on Thursday September 3 after the summer holidays in the Community Centre. This Club caters for the over 55’s. New members very welcome.

O’ROURKE SCHOOL OF BALLET

CLONEYGOWAN GOOSEBERRY FAIR

Re-scheduled for Sunday September 13. This promises to be a wonderful event, with only 2 years to go to celebrate 200 years of this event in Cloneygowan village. Proceeds will aid the running of the Senior Citizens party & trip to Lourdes. Your support will be appreciated.

Portarlington Rugby Club Monster Auction will take place on Friday September 11 from 7pm with some real bargains to be had. Anyone who would like to donate any saleable items in good condition can contact one of the members listed below. Collection can be arranged if required.
