Once again Pat Burbage will climb Croagh Patrick on Monday July 8th with a group. If you would like to climb, then call in to Pat at his shop on Main St, or contact him on 0877716244. Proceeds once again goes to Port Meals on Wheels. If you can take a sponsor card, they are now available.


Swimming is not allowed at Derryounce Lakes. The lakes are dangerous, with many sudden drop off & soft areas of lake bed & other hazards including pathogens. Enjoy the walkways, the biodiversity of the area, its beauty & tranquility. That’s what Derryounce is about.

Deepest Sympathy to the family of Liam Fingleton, Patrick St, who passed away peacefully at Oakdale Nursing Home surrounded by his family on Saturday May 18. Liam was predeceased by his parents Bill & Sheila, & his brother Paul. He will be sadly missed by his brother Donal, sisters Marie & Caithlin, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours & friends. Funeral took place on Monday May 20. May Liam’s gentle soul rest in Peace.

Harriet was predeceased by her parents John & Delia, sister Phyllis & brother Leo. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Louise, sons Vincent & Eric, grandson Thomas & the late Kevin, sisters Patricia & Teresa, brother Paddy, extended family & friends. Funeral took place on Tueday May 21. May Harriet’s gentle soul rest in Peace.

Knitting Club-Meets every Friday morning 10.30am-12.30 . All skill levels from beginner to advanced are welcome! 

Face Painting Workshops – Wednesdays June 5 & 12 from 4.30 to 7.30. Age 15-17 years. Local artist, Romena Roe will train young people the skill of facepainting. They will learn a number of different templates over two evenings. They will then have the opportunity to practice their new skills at a live event on June 15.

Junior Book Club-Meeting on the last Wednesday of the month this club is suitable for 9-12year olds. Booking is essential.

Baby Book Club-Baby Book Club meets on Wednesday mornings 10:30am.  Booking is essential.

Sensory Toy Resource Collection – a service for parents of children with additional needs who live in Co. Laois. The toys are designed to support the development of gross motor skills, fine motor skills and communication skills.

Congratulations to the Arlington AFC Soccer Club Under 17 Premier squad. They secured 2nd place in the Kildare & District Underage League this season. Playing at the highest level, it is a massive achievement. Big well done to the lads and their Mentors.

A big well done to 16 year old boxer Edward Harty, who is a Colaiste losagain student. Edward won his second all Ireland title in the space of 3 weeks. He will now be part of the high-performance squad in Dublin, and will represent Ireland at next month’s European Championships, they will be held in Bosnia Herzegovina. This is Edward’s second time to represent his country, his home town of Portarlington & Portlaoise Boxing club at a major European championships. Edward’s family and his boxing club are very proud of him, as are the people of Portarlington!
