Portarlington Speakers Step the Night Away
It gives enjoyment, exercise, the opportunity to make new friends and can reduce your chance of getting dementia by up to 81%. Sounds good doesn’t it? Well Donal Cahill’s talk Cupla steppieanna was on the older style of Sean-nós dance and not content with a demonstration. He had all of the Portarlington Speakers dancing away doing the Killenard Step. Will Portarlington Speakers become Portarlington Steppers? Perhaps but not yet but all agreed it was great fun. Portarlington’s own Life Coach Damian Oliver gave an inspiring speech on the Power of Questions showing that turning the negative question round into a positive one leads to happiness and achievement, Further to tips on how to succeed followed including a group meditation demonstration.Geraldine Kennedy gave some great advice on New Year’s Resolutions in a short poem and Noreen Diver gave the Club’s supportive mission statement.
Donal Cahill not content with exercising the Speakers’ dancing feet then chaired the table topics section encouraging speakers to give one or two minute impromptu speeches. The next meeting will be at 7.45pm on Tuesday January 19 at the Killenard Community Centre. There is already a full programme of speakers including an icebreaker and a workshop on how to conquer fear when speaking in public. All are welcome. See the Club on FaceBook, MeetUp and www.portarlington.toastmastersclubs.org
