The committee & staff at Portarlington Meals on Wheels would like to express their deep gratitude to all the people, businesses etc who have been so kind to us. Your kindness has been outstanding. SUPPORT LINE

A support line has been set up for older people who have concerns, or are facing difficulties relating to the outbreak of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). Professional staff are available to answer queries & give advice & reassurance where necessary. The support line is open Monday to Friday, 8am–8pm, by calling 0818 222 024. Hours may be extended to meet demand.

NEEDING ASSISTANCE

Sergeant Dave Lynam, Portarlington Garda Station has put out a message to the public. “If you know of any vulnerable people, or anyone that needs assistance with anything, please don’t hesitate to contact the Station at (057) 8674100.” Unfortunately, they can’t be used to take people to appointments but are there for anything else.

A Covid-19 Community Response Forum has been established in Laois & Offaly, coordinated by Laois & Offaly County Councils. This is to respond to the needs of the vulnerable members of our Community. Deepest Sympathy to the family of Sylvia Doris (Dottie) Maynard, St Patrick’s Tce & formerly London who passed away on Friday April 10. Dottie will be sadly missed by her sister Judy (Murphy), niece Tracey & her partner Tilly, nephew Alan, grandnephew Noah, extended family, neighbours & friends. A memorial Service will take place for Dottie at a later place. May Dottie rest in Peace.

She will be sadly missed by her sons Mark & Paul, daughters-in-law Fiona & Olivia, grandchildren Jamie, Tamara, Jason, Brigid & Keith, her extended family, neighbours & friends. A memorial Mass will take place for Louisa at a later place. May Louisa rest in Peace.

Christy will be sadly missed by his loving wife Mags, sons David & Kieran, daughters Michelle, Laura & Amanda, his 12 grandchildren, sister Kathleen, his extended family & friends. A memorial Ceremony will take place at a later date for Christy. May Christy rest in Peace.

Do it for Dan fundraiser

A major fundraiser has been set up for baby Dan Donogher who needs major treatment in America. Dan’s parents are Niall and Aisling (Nee Quigley) Donagher from Jamestown/Ballybrittas. Aisling is a member of staff at Portarlington Credit Union. Check out the gofund me page “Do it for Dan”.

Word about Dan has touched the hearts of people in Laois, all over Ireland & the world.

A massive fundraiser was launched for baby Dan on March 5 who suffers with a genetic neuromuscular disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1 and Scoliosis. A breakthrough treatment is available in the USA and to meet the cost, a target of €2million has been set. The reaction to the fundraiser has been enormous. Please keep sharing & donating.

Due to Coronavirus (COVID-19) Laois Alzheimer’s Society Resource Centre at 47 Main Street Portlaoise is closed, but if you need to meet Ann please ring in advance on 086 8372168 as she is working from home. We have cancelled all Social Clubs and Support Group for the moment, and we will take advice as to when we can resume these and reopen the office.
