Laois Alzheimer’s Society Resource Centre at 47 Main Street Portlaoise is open Monday to Friday 9am-5pm. Due to Coronavirus (COVID-19) we are cancelling all Social Clubs and Support Groups for the month of March. The Alzheimer Society of Ireland National Helpline is 1800 341 341. Laois Alzheimer’s are offering a week’s respite care to people who have a dementia diagnosis in Waterman’s Lodge Care Centre, Ballina/Killaloe, Co Tipperary. Their specialist overnight respite centre offers stimulation and activity to the person with dementia in a safe, friendly environment and respite from caring for the caregiver. FUNDRAISER
Portarlington has seen families devastated with sickness in their family in recent times. In the past few week’s fundraisers were set up to support the Geoghegan & Broughan families. Denise Geoghegan has been in the Mater hospital for the past 2 months waiting on a heart transplant. Andrea Broughan is in Beaumont Hospital on life support after having major brain surgery. We have also learnt about beautiful baby Dan Donogher who needs major treatment in America. Dan’s parents are Niall and Aisling (Nee Quigley) Donagher from Jamestown/Ballybrittas. Aisling is a member of staff at Portarlington Credit Union. Both Niall & Aisling are very well known in the Laois GAA community. Niall represented Laois footballers at all levels until his retirement at the end of the 2018 season, while Aisling, originally from Timahoe, played for the Laois ladies’ team for a long number of years too. Deepest Sympathy to the family of Sean Clancy Old Knockmay Portlaoise & formerly Gracefield Portarlington who passed away on Wednesday March 11. Sean will be sadly missed by his loving wife Kathleen, daughters Caroline, Maria & Patricia, sons Martin & Colin, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, extended family & friends. Requiem Mass took place on Friday March 13 at SS Peter & Paul’s Church Portlaoise, with burial after in SS Peter & Paul’s cemetery. May Sean rest in Peace.
