LAOIS ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY
The Laois Alzheimer’s Society would like to thank everyone who walked with us on Monday morning July 18. Thanks to the staff and students of the Further Education Centre, Portarlington & the staff at Derryounce Walkway, Colm and Martin who were a great help to us. Our health and safety men Enda and John and all the businesses who gave refreshments and vouchers for spot prizes, and of course our branch members. A special thanks to everybody who sponsored our walkers and gave donations. Thanks to all the local press for the coverage you have given us and thanks to The Laois Nationalist for sending Denis to take photos. At the moment we have collected over €2,000 so thanks to everybody who gave and also those who went out asking people to sponsor them. Still more to come and all proceeds stay in Laois.
We had 43 walkers who all finished the course and enjoyed the lovely scenery and quietness that Derryounce Walkway offers people whether in a group situation or just for a quiet bit of time for a walk and to observe the wildlife in their sanctuary section. We all would highly recommend the walk to anyone. We had some spot prizes on the day so we just raffled them off between the walkers, a big thank you to all for the prizes – Laura Jane Boutique, Jo Jo’s Boutique, Sue Ryder Shop and Pat Cooper’s Florist. Thanks to Supervalu and Marcus McLaughlin for sponsoring drinks on the day. Adam Somers – won a Laura Jane’s €20 voucher, presented by Katie Hogan. Debbie Scully won the second Laura Jane’s €20 voucher, presented by Samantha Beacon. John Hanlon -Jo Jo Boutique, presented by Helen Nolan. Christopher Murphy -Gift Set from Sue Ryder Shop, presented by Helen Nolan. Joan Cash – flowers from Pat Coopers Florist, presented by Helen Nolan.

KNOCK INVALID COMMITTEE
Having been over a decade in existence bringing invalids to Knock Shrine, it is with regret that, as fewer invalids are travelling with the pilgrimage, the present Committee have decided that this year was to be their last to travel in that capacity to the Shrine. Remaining funds have been donated to both the Lourdes Committee and Meals on Wheels. The Committee thank all who have so generously supported and helped out in any way over the many years.
