Portarlington Speakers

Severe weather warnings and a gale to blow your house away didn’t stop members from around Laois travelling to Killenard Community Centre to enjoy a very entertaining evening with Portarlington Speakers.

Club President Carmel Moore welcomed the welcomed the Club’s newest member Geraldine Kennedy. Carmel continued giving an inspirational speech on a mother’s role in the rise of Bill Cullen. Mark Bastow amused everyone with his tale of Henry VIII and Robert Frost’s short poem on the Hardship of Accounting. An unusual table topics session recalled childhood days getting the haycocks in, that most important domestic utensil the waiter’s friend (corkscrew), and how to organise your life using post-it notes (Oh! Emma).

At a recent committee meeting, we decided to pause the walking group for the month of December as the weather conditions are not ideal & the darkness is also a hindrance.

AGM

Killenard Tidy Towns AGM will take place on  Friday November 27 at 8pm in the Community Centre, Killenard. If Killenard is to enter the competition in 2016, new volunteers are needed to take a leadership role on the committee. We need people with the time to organise clean up/planting events in the spring/summer and on-going project development.

Shouldn’t all of Laois be spotlessly clean?

On the night, we will also discuss setting up a Killenard Text Alert System and will be seeking volunteers to take this project forward as part of the Tidy Towns effort. If you cannot make the AGM but wish to volunteer, contact Sandie O’Leary on 087-7651396.
