LAOIS ALZHEIMER
The Laois Alzheimer’s Society would like to thank everyone who supported them so well on their recent Tea Day. A very good day was had by all, with people meeting up with so many people. Bishop Nulty called in after doing a closing ceremony while collecting the World Meeting of Family Icon. A special thanks to all the Priests and all the staff in the Parish Centre for all their help. It is great to be able to let more people know what Services are been provided. Great having the help of local notes in the local papers every week and in Parish Newsletters.
BAT WALK
The PCDA and the Kildare Bat Group would like you to join them on a Bat Walk on Saturday May 19. Venue: The Entrance at the Marian Hill Wood, Bog road. Time- 9.20pm.
We hope to hear and see bats and dispel some of the myths about Ireland’s only flying Mammals. All children must be accompanied by a parent. Please wear sturdy walking shoes, wrap up well and bring a torch. No Dogs please. Bingo continues every Tuesday night at 8.30pm in the Port GAA Centre. Prize money given out each week is over €2,300.

VINTAGE FILM NIGHT
Would you like to enjoy an evening of digitally restored film of Dublin and Portarlington from the 1920’s? Following the discovery and restoration of over 20 reels of film from the 1920’s, the Lea Castle Conservation Group are proud to present a unique opportunity to see this rare film of a bye gone era on June 6 in the Dunamaise Arts Centre, Portlaoise. The film, recorded by George Mathews, features life in Dublin and Portarlington in the early years of the last century and has never been shown in public before. On the night there will also be an opportunity to view the Ronnie Mathews vintage postcard collection. Tickets are strictly limited and cost €10 each from the Dunamaise Arts Centre Portlaoise and locally, details to follow.

The Invalid Pilgrimage will travel to Knock Shrine on Sunday June 3. This will coincide with the Diocesan Pilgrimage. Full funding is available for invalids wishing to be placed in the care of St. John’s in Knock before and after the Ceremonies. Otherwise seats that may become available will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and will cost €30 per person. (Includes food/beverages). Deepest Sympathy to the Hynan family Portlaoise road on the death of Paddy Hynan on Wednesday May 2. Paddy will be sadly missed by his loving wife Eileen, sons John, Pat, Joe Peter & Chris, daughters Margaret & Martina, brother Fr Joe (Melbourne), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family & friends. Sr Mary will be sadly missed by her community of the Little Sisters of the Poor Glasgow, her sisters Chris (O’Reilly) Patrick St, Mary, Phil Patricia, Anne & Bernadette, extended family & friends. Funeral Mass took place at the Convent Chapel in Glasgow, with burial in the Convent Cemetery. May Sr. Mary rest in Peace.
