WORLD CHAMPION

The people of Portarlington are very proud once again of Sean Burbage who became World dancing Champion in the U19 boys World Dancing Championship 2018. Sean is a son of Pat & Catherine Burbage. Wishing Sean all the very best for the future.

Congrats to Sean Burbage who is World U19 boys dancing Champion 2018.

 

MONDAY NIGHT DANCING

Dancing in Aid of Portarlington St Vincent de Paul continues every Monday night in the Gandon Inn Hotel & Restaurant. Admission €8. Dancing 9.30pm to 12. A great night assured.

BINGO
Bingo continues every Tuesday night at 8.30pm in the Port GAA Centre. Prize money given out each week is over €2,200.

 

FRIENDS TOGETHER SOCIAL CLUB
The club meets every Tuesday & Friday in the Scouts Den, Main St from 2.30pm – 5pm, offering a selection of games & activities, social outings & refreshments & play area for children. New members welcome.

PORT COMMUNITY ALLOTMENTS
The allotments have from Ballymorris Road.  Laois County Council have taken back the land for development. Fortunately, they have found a new home at the old Convent Gardens next to St. Michael’s Church, Patrick Street, Portarlington.
If you wish to join them at St. Michael’s you can contact Mike on 086-2056542 to secure a plot, as this area is not as big as the previous site.

PORTARLINGTON CONCERT BAND

The Portarlington Concert Band are keen to increase their numbers for boys & girls aged 8 years & upwards. Classes take place every Thursday between 4.30 & 6.30pm. Instruments offered are: Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, Saxophone & Percussion. Instruments are provided.  If you would like your child to learn an instrument please contact Pat Donegan on 083-8510428.

 

BINGO

 Bingo in Clonaslee Community Centre on Sunday April 8 starting at 3pm.  Doors open at 2.15pm.

 

SYMPATHY

Deepest Sympathy to Denis & Madeline Hayden & family Ballymorris on the death of their son Denis Hayden, St Patrick’s Park Rathangan who passed away on Tuesday March 20. Denis will be sadly missed by his wife, parents & extended family & friends. Requiem Mass took place in St Abban’s Church Doonane on Friday March 23, with burial after in the adjoining Cemetery. May Denis rest in Peace.

Deepest Sympathy to the family of Nancy Nicholls (nee Dunne), St Michael’s Park who passed away on Tuesday March 27. Nancy was predeceased by her loving husband Johnny & daughter Ann (Fitzpatrick). She will be sadly missed by her devoted daughters Lilly, Mary & Breda, son Arthur, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her extended family, neighbours & friends. Funeral Mass took place on Wednesday evening March 28 in St Michael’s Church, with prayers on Holy Thursday and burial after in St Michael’s Cemetery. May Nancy’s gentle soul rest in Peace.

Deepest Sympathy to the family of Rachael Flanagan, St Michael’s Park who passed away on Sunday March 25. Rachael will be so sadly missed by her loving parents Padraig & Rose, brother Ronan & his wife Ciara, sister Alison & her partner Paul, nephew Craig, her boyfriend Garreth, her granny Minnie (Donegan), aunts, uncles, extended family & Rachael’s many friends. Requiem Mass took place on Wednesday March 28 in St Michael’s Church, with burial after in St Michael’s Cemetery. May Rachael’s beautiful soul rest in Peace.

SKYDIVE

Local young man Adam Lambkin from Barrow View and his friend Cian Bourke are doing a Skydive for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland. Adam attends the Cistercian College Roscrea with his friend Cian who suffers from CF.
Adam is son of Barry & Andrea Lambkin and is 16 years old. His friend Cian is a CF sufferer. In light of the great sadness in our town this past week with the loss of beautiful 19-year-old Rachel Flanagan who suffered from CF we should all come out and sponsor these young men in any way we can. PORTARLINGTON TENNIS CLUB

The Club are looking forward to a great tennis Season. The Courts are in excellent condition and a pleasure to play on. Tennis coach Tony Lok will resume coaching on Tuesdays and Fridays starting April 10. New adult beginner class on Fridays at 7pm. Rackets provided. Places available on Tuesdays for beginners 4/6years at 3.15pm.  A small number of places available for older children on Tuesday or Friday.
