GROW Community Mental Health Movement support group meets every Thursday at 7.30pm in the Jobs Club, Oriel House, Upper Main Street, Portarlington. Junior Book Club-The junior book club meets on the second Wednesday of the month, we have limited spaces available for new members aged 9-12, call 057 8643751 for more information.
Knitting Club-The knitting group continues to meet every Friday morning 10:30am-12:30pm, new members always welcome.



This fabulous night of the year is fast approaching. The glitz and glamour night is on February 23 in the Heritage Hotel, Killenard. Proceeds are in aid of Portarlington Senior Citizens. The Concert Band for boys & girls aged 9 years and upwards is back up and running for the New Year. Instruments offered are: Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, Saxophone, Euphonium & Percussion. Dancing in Aid of Portarlington St Vincent de Paul continues every Monday night in the Gandon Inn Hotel & Restaurant. Monday night dancing on January 29 with Brian McDermott. Admission €7. Dancing 9.30pm to 12. A great night assured.



Deepest Sympathy to the family of Kathleen Costello (nee Culleton), Bracklone St who passed away on Saturday January 13. Kathleen was predeceased by her loving husband Paddy & will be sadly missed by her sons Michael, Brendan, Tommy & Patrick, daughters Lucy, Eugenie & Breda, sister Briggie Kiernan Lea Rd, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, neighbours & friends. Requiem Mass took place on Monday January 15 in St John’s Church Killenard, with burial after in the adjoining Cemetery. May Kathleen’s gentle soul rest in Peace.


Deepest Sympathy to Kathleen McNally & family Spa St on the death of her brother in law Johnny McNally Carrickmore, Co. Tyrone who passed away on January 13. Johnny spent many years living in Portarlington before returning to his native Tyrone. Johnny & his late brother Brendan were well known & respected builders. He was involved with Arlington FC & would have played in the famous street leagues for Marian Hill. He is fondly remembered by all his mates in the Club. Last year for many months he stayed helping to look after his brother Brendan McNally who passed away in April 2017. Johnny will be sadly missed by his loving wife Josephine, daughters Tracey, Jackie, Christine & Pamela, sons Kevin & Ronan, grandchildren, sister, his extended family & friends. Requiem Mass took place in St Colmcille’s Church on Monday January 15, with burial after in the adjoining Cemetery. May Johnny rest in Peace.

His brothers Don, Tom, Dermot, Philip & Gerry, sister Peggie (Harris), nieces, nephews, his extended family & friends. Requiem Mass took place in St Michael’s Church on Thursday January 17, with burial after in St Michael’s Cemetery. May Liam rest in Peace.
