Adult Chess Club-We are now taking names of adults who may be interested in a weekly meet up to play chess in the library. Those who are interested can give their name at the library desk or call 057 8643751.

PORTARLINGTON CONCERT BAND MEETING
The Concert Band for boys & girls aged 9 years and upwards is back up and running for the New Year. Instruments offered are: Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, Saxophone, Euphonium & Percussion. Dancing in Aid of Portarlington St Vincent de Paul continues every Monday night in the Gandon Inn Hotel & Restaurant. Monday night dancing on January 22-Unity. Admission €7. Dancing 9.30pm to 12. A great night assured. We would like to wish all our dancers a Happy & Healthy New Year.

Deepest Sympathy to Liz Whelan & family Marian Hill on the death of her beloved Mam Esther (Essie) Forde (nee Foran) Acragar Mountmellick who passed away on January6. Essie was predeceased by her loving husband Tom. She will be sadly missed by her devoted family, daughter Liz, sons John, Joe, Paul, Ger & Marty, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother Christy Foran (Portlaoise), her extended family, neighbours & friends. Requiem Mass took place in St Joseph’s Church Mountmellick on Monday January 8, with burial after in St Joseph’s Cemetery. May Essie rest in Peace.
Deepest Sympathy to Eva Johnston & family Garryvacum on the death of her brother Canon John Bell Co. Armagh & formerly Foxcroft St who passed away on Christmas day. John will be sadly missed by his loving wife Carole, sons Christopher, Stephen & David, grandchildren, sisters, his extended family & friends. Funeral Service took place in Christ Church Kilmore on Friday December 29. May John rest in Peace.

Portarlington GAA AGM was held on Friday January 5 in the Centre.

Our bingo continues every Tuesday @8.30 in the Gaa Center with over €2,000 in prize money to be won.
Combined club lotto tickets on sale every week with the Jackpot up to €12,000, tickets can be purchased from The Pint O Port, Burbages, Spar Station Rd, Luttrell oil and any committee member.
The All County Draw tickets are out also with 4 monthly draws with prize money of €100,000 to be won. Tickets are €130 and can be paid by monthly instalments and are available from any committee member. This is the club’s main yearly income and would encourage people of the town to support the club with this draw.
The Annual Dinner Dance is on January 26 in The Heritage Hotel Killenard where the successful winning Minor & U21s will be presented with their County medals. Music on the night and it promises to be a great one. Tickets €40 are on sale from Darren Bracken, Niall Slevin and Adrianne McCarthy.
