PORTARLINGTON CONCERT BAND MEETING

The Concert Band for boys & girls aged 9 years and upwards is back up and  running for the New Year. Instruments offered are: Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, Saxophone, Euphonium & Percussion. If you would like your child to learn an instrument in the New Year please contact Pat Donegan on 083-8510428.

 ENROLMENT

Enrolment forms for Scoil Náisiúnta Naomh Eoin, Killenard for School year 2018/2019 are available from the school reception from Monday January 8, 2018. Closing date for application is Friday January 26, 2018 at 5pm.

 

HEALTHY HUB NUTRITION CLUB PORTARLINGTON

The Club has moved. Now upstairs at Lyles Shoes, Main St. We are there Monday to Friday from 9am each day, or you can ring for an appointment at a time that suits you. There is still time to tone up for Christmas. All of December our professional body scan is free. Get a head start on your 2018 New Year resolutions. Book now or call in any morning. MONDAY NIGHT DANCING

Dancing in Aid of Portarlington St Vincent de Paul continues every Monday night in the Gandon Inn Hotel & Restaurant. Monday night dancing on January 15- music by Solitaire, January 22-Unity. Admission €7. Dancing 9.30pm to 12. A great night assured. We would like to wish all our dancers a Happy & Healthy New Year.

GROW Community Mental Health Movement support group meets every Thursday at 7.30pm in the Jobs Club, Oriel House, Upper Main Street, Portarlington. PORTARLINGTON LIBRARY
Adult Chess Club-We are now taking names of adults who may be interested in a weekly meet up to play chess in the library. Those who are interested can give their name at the library desk or call 057 8643751.

LPPN PUBLIC MEETING

Laois Public Participation Network warmly invites you to attend a public meeting and discussion about the following Laois County Council Social and Cultural Strategies. The Creative Ireland Laois Plan 2018-2022, the Arts Strategy 2018-2022, the Recreation, Play and Sports Strategy 2018-2022, the Library Development Strategy 2018-2022. Meeting takes place in the Killeshin Hotel Portlaoise on Wednesday January 17 at 7pm.  Please arrive at 6.45pm for registration. Refreshments will be served.

SYMPATHY 

Deepest Sympathy to the Costello family Killenard on the recent death of David Costello who passed away where he lived in Portugal. David was son of the late Sean Costello & Kathleen. He was born on January 2nd 1952 & was the eldest of 9 children.
He trained as a draughtsman & worked in Butler’s in Portarlington.  After that he worked for the World Bank in South Africa. He loved it there. He came home around 1980’s for a few years, then got itchy feet. He went to America & that is where he met his soul mate & future wife Lisa. They lived in San Diego until September, when they retired to Portugal where he passed away. He is survived by his wife Lisa, son James, mother Kathleen, brother’s & sister’s: PJ, Elizabeth, Arthur, John, Brian, Mary, Cait & Matt also his sister’s in-laws, brother in-law, nieces, nephews, grandnieces/ grandnephews. A celebration of David’s life was held in Killenard recently and was attended by friends and family. May David rest in Peace.

Deepest Sympathy to the family of John Lynch, Kilbride who passed away suddenly on Monday December 18. John was predeceased by his loving son Kevin & he will be sadly missed by his loving wife Susan, daughter Linda, brothers William & Philip, sisters Mary, Dolores, Catherine & Eileen, son in law Gary, grandchildren Ashley, Adam, Aaron, Thomas & Katie, his extended family & friends. Requiem Mass took pace on Wednesday December 20   in St Michael’s Church, with burial after in St Michael’s Cemetery. May John rest in Peace.

Deepest Sympathy to the family of Phyllis Ridgeway (nee Broomfield), Sandy Lane who passed away on Tuesday December 19. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Staney, and she will be sadly missed by her sons Neville & Frank, daughter Olwyn, grandchildren Emma, Laura, Gavin, Ben, John, Andrew, David & Elisha, brothers, sisters, extended family & friends. Service took place on Thursday December 21 in St Paul’s Church, with burial after in the adjoining Churchyard. May Phyllis rest in Peace.

Eileen was predeceased by her loving husband Dessie & she will be sadly missed by her devoted family, Caroline, Oonagh, Niall & Lorraine, grandchildren Siobhan, Katie, Saoirse, Orlaith, Colm, Gerry & Molly, sisters Alice & Ann, her extended family, neighbours & friends. Requiem Mass took place on Saturday December 23 in St Michael’s Church, with burial after in St Michael’s Cemetery. May Eileen’s gentle soul rest in Peace.
