Audio Guide to Abbeyleix

The story of historic Abbeyleix is now on Soundcloud! Over the past few years we have commissioned audioguides to the Story of Laois. Working with Abarta Audio Guides, we have published guides to the Laois Heritage Trail, Monastic Trail, the Rock of Dunamase and to the historic towns of Abbeyleix, Portarlington and Portlaoise. These are all free to download, and details are at our website.

The original guides were produced with the support of Laois Tourism and Laois Partnership. Now with the help of Fáilte Ireland, we are bringing all these together into one Laois Heritage App, and translating them into a range of languages, to help in the promotion of Laois to overseas visitors. The project will also involve the creation of audio-visual guides and installation of viewing and listening equipment at three key sites, Timahoe Heritage Centre, Donaghmore Workhouse & Agricultural Museum and Heritage House Museum.

This exciting project is part of Ireland’s Ancient East, and tenders are being invited for the translation project and for the creation of the app. Details are on the Government procurement website, E-tenders. The closing date for receipt of tenders is noon on 3rd February.
