ROAD CLOSURE

Laois County Council has announced that the Ballymorris road will be closed from January 19 to February 16. It will be closed from the Ballymorris Road Railway Bridge to Canal Road/ Ballymorris Road Crossroads. The closure is necessary to facilitate the installation of traffic lights, footpath and public lighting.

Member Notice–As you are all aware, we are now back to level 5 Restrictions. As we are an essential service, we will continue to serve our members in a manner that is safe for you and our staff.

The following changes will take effect immediately:

• We will close the office from 1pm to 2pm from Tuesday to Friday.

• We will close at 4pm each day.

• Staff will be available to take phone calls and online queries up to 5:30pm each day.

• The maximum number of people allowed in our public area will be 4. All others must queue outside the office. Masks are Mandatory.

• We encourage all our members to only visit the office where it is absolutely essential. Please note you can contact us by email at mail@portcu.ie or call us on (05786)23336. We would ask our members to be patient with this change.

We would like to thank our members for their cooperation to date. It is now more important than ever that we look out for each other and restrict our movements at all times.

All of the above changes will be kept under constant review.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL

The Committee & volunteers of Portarlington St Vincent de Paul wish you all a Happy & Healthy New year. They thank everyone for your support during 2020. Once again in line with Government guidelines we are unable to take donations at this time, also click and collect has finished. Shop will remain closed until restrictions are lifted. We ask that donations are not left at the door. Thank you all for your support and understanding.

SCHOOL ADMISSION

If you wish to apply for your child to enrol at St John’s School, Killenard, then you can download the application form from their website here. Contact the school office at office@naomheoin.ie or call 0578626717. The school will cease accepting applications on February 5. People will be notified by February 26.

Deepest Sympathy to the family of Margaret (Peggy) Harris (nee Hickey), Market Square who passed away at Oakdale Nursing home. Peggy was predeceased by her infant daughter Sylvia, son Tony, husband Dominic & brother Liam. Peggy will be sadly missed by her devoted daughters Denise & Gwen, their partners Alan & Terence, grandsons Eli & Tony, brothers Don, Dermot, Tom, Philip & Gerry, extended family, neighbours & many friends. Requiem Mass took place on Thursday January 31 in St Michael’s Church, with burial after in St Michael’s Cemetery. May Peggy’s gentle soul rest in Peace.

Deepest Sympathy to the family of Helen Whelehan (nee Kennedy), Ballycarroll, Killenard & late of Dingle Co Kerry who passed away suddenly at her residence on Tuesday December 29. Helen was predeceased by her husband Michael. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Sinead, sons John & James, her 5 grandchildren, brother Seamus, extended family, neighbours & a large circle of friends. Requiem Mass took place on Friday January 1 in St John’s Church Killenard, with burial after in the adjoining Cemetery. May Helen’s gentle soul rest in Peace.

Sean & PJ, sister May, her extended family, neighbours & friends. Requiem Mass took place on Tuesday January 5 at St Michael’s Church, with burial after in St Michael’s Cemetery. May Kay’s gentle soul rest in Peace.

Deepest Sympathy to the family of Sister Anna Marie O’Neill (formerly Francie O’Neill, Graiguecullen Carlow & formerly Bracknagh Co. Offaly who passed away on December 23 in her 100th year in the Poor Clare Monastery. Sr Anna was predeceased by her brothers Sean & Edward O’Neill. She is survived by her sister, Sr Patricia O’Neill, Limerick, nephews, nieces, extended family & her Sisters in the Poor Clare Monastery & the Community in Graiguecullen & Carlow. Funeral took place on Sunday December 27 at St Clare’s Church Graiguecullen, with burial after in the Convent Cemetery. May Sr Anna gentle soul rest in Peace.
